Wightwick & Moss, Ludgate St. London c.1790 Stock No.2966

// SOLD //

Wightwick & Moss, Ludgate St. London c.1790

A rare Georgian wall clock, the 12" diameter silvered engraved brass dial signed 'Wightwick & Moss, Ludgate St. London', with roman and arabic numerals, the movement with verge escapement fronted by elegant matching steel 'heart'  hands, in an ebonised case with double salt box projections, and a cast moulded brass bezel closing into a recess in the turned surround.

Stock No.2966

The method of retaining the bezel is unusual, but is seen in other clocks of the period. Its advantage lies in there being no requirement for a bezel lock and key.

John Wightwick and Thomas Moss are recorded in partnership at 24 Ludgate Street from 1775 - 1804. John Wightwick became an honary freeman of the Clockmakers Company in 1781.
