Edward was brought up in a clock-conscious household. His father was a Fellow of the British Horological Institute, and he first took apart a clock unaided aged ten (but his father had to help him re-assemble it). Thus introduced to clocks, he started collecting wall clocks – the only affordable quality clock at the time - in the late 1960s. Edward always valued authenticity above condition, enjoying particularly returning an old and neglected clock to good condition, leaving it to tell the time for many years to come.

After running a successful architectural practice for over thirty years, he retired in the late 1990s and turned from being a collector to being a dealer –as he had to sell some of the collection to makes pace for new acquisitions. For the next twenty five years, he actively bought and sold clocks, standing at premier
antiques fairs across the country.

Edward died in 2018.You may be interested to read more about Edward and his life in clocks below: http://spitalfieldslife.com/2018/10/12/so-long-edward-burd/
